DESIGN FOR LIFE

Screenplay PETER SAVIERI
Story by BEN HACKWORTH and PETER SAVIERI
Director BEN HACKWORTH

Mary used to be a concert pianist. Mary used to teach music to disabled children. Mary always walked with her eyes to the ground, but she used to have a sense of purpose. Now Mary is a maid at the Lychester Club, an exclusive society club for wealthy women of
influence.

So here she is, emptying ashtrays, polishing silverware. Always with her eyes down, but waiting for something, anything, to happen.

During an evening performance at the club's function room, something does happen outside in the car park. The following morning, Detective Taylor is called to investigate a vast pool of blood on the concrete beside the wealthy member's luxury cars. Has a
rivalry at the club led to foul play? Has someone threatened to reveal the older women's trysts with local rent boys? Or is there something darker going
on?

Mary watches the Detective, and becomes seduced into the drama. Her resentment of her lowered social standing, and her emerging envy of these bejeweled women and direct rivalry with cruel Kara Jones, feed a tantalizing fantasy that SHE is the femme fatale on the run, who the Detective seeks. She disappears
from the club. She flees her husband Eugene's dalliances with the same group of pretty rent-boys. She will become lost to her husband and lost in her
own mind as she transforms herself into an absurdly glamourous vision of desperate femininity.

But who is the murderer? Who has and will be killed? And who, in Mary's private world of film noir
delusion, is the maddest of them all?
